The journey of an entrepreneur - #5: Conviction

On vacation, I faced a unique challenge: build a fire.

Not a push-button, gas-log fire.

A kindling-and-matches, singe-your-arm hair fire.

A hard task for someone who flunked Cub Scouts, never earning a single badge.

After meticulously selecting logs, strategically stacking them, and diligently lighting handfuls of dry twigs and scraps of newspaper…I learned a key lesson:

A successful fire must have a solid base of coals.

All these years I believed that flames fueled the fire. Nope.

Flames are a by-product. The awe-inspiring dance of blue and orange light is short lived without the steady support of red-hot coals.

Flames don’t fuel the fire; coals do.

It's similar when expressing your entrepreneurial spirit at work.

The attention-grabbing flames of results are fueled by the coals of conviction.
