The baggage we claim

I recently landed in LaGuardia for a weekend visit with my oldest daughter in Brooklyn.

Admittedly, most of our adventures involve food destinations. This time we had our sights fixed on Knickerbocker Bagel and Katz's Delicatessen.

Before enjoying our selected delicacies, I had business to take care of. Baggage claim.

I hustled my way through the newly renovated airport, weaved around the crowd at carousel #3, and walked off under the familiar weight of my stuff.

As I lugged my burden, I missed how light and refreshed I had felt after dropping it off at the ticketing counter back home.

Then, my thoughts turned.

What about life baggage? Admit it. We all carry it.

If only we had the clarity to identify it. The confidence to hand it over. The courage to let it drift away down the conveyer belt.

Instead, we reclaim it over and over again at each new destination we reach.

It doesn’t have to be that way. Life baggage can’t claim you. It’s your choice whether you claim it.

What baggage has been weighing you down for too long?

It may be time to check it in and trust that it will get taken care of.

Feel lighter?
