Know your role

My youngest daughter played volleyball in high school.

She had great coaches…and I wasn’t one of them.

Sitting in the stands, I recognized the main benefit of knowing little about volleyball:

I couldn’t “multi-role”.

My role was laser focused on my unique strength: Dad.

Trying to fill multiple rolls can be a lot like multitasking (code for doing several things mediocre at the same time).

Give yourself permission not to be all things to all people.

Hone in on your key role by identifying your innate strength:

  •       Encouragement

  •       Strategy

  •       Innovation

  •       Listening

  •       Showing Empathy

  •       Gathering Resources

  •       Steadfastness

Focus on what you do best.

Then, invite others to rise to the challenge of doing the same.
