Awkward Silence

Why is sitting in silence after asking a question so challenging?

NOTE: If I had asked you that in person, I would’ve also had to make sure I kept quiet even if you didn’t answer right away.

Our silence speaks what mere words cannot: Your insight is worth waiting for.

If you’re curious and really care, you’ll have to get comfortable with the discomfort of waiting to hear what people have to say.

Your willingness to do so is a game-changer.

It takes intention, discipline, and practice to wait someone out.

How long can you go?

One second?

Five?

How about twenty?

Distance takes discipline.

Think about an upcoming conversation, facilitation, or presentation you’re a part of. Have the courage to ask something worth learning and make the daring decision to wait for the answer

No matter how long it takes.
